Previous Services:
Youth Club / Saturday School / Homework Club
Open to Lewisham young people, especially those living in and around New Cross Gate. All Welcome.
By 2012, it had helped over five hundred children and young people. Teaching Maths, English, Science and ICT and preparing young people for GCSE and SATS.
REMEC After School Homework Club
The Homework Club has helped over 600 children and young people, particularly those from disadvantaged, low income and marginalised backgrounds in Lewisham & Southwark.
Remec Youth club started in 2006, standing as a great gathering for children and young people in North Lewisham ( New Cross ). It provided a social, cultural, health and well-being facility for young people.
Since it started the youth club has since supported over 500 young people to mature and develop their interpersonal skills. Many of our youths have gone on to further their education in college, and university with the help of our safe and healthy environment, made available to them when parents were managing tight schedules and multiple jobs to make ends meet.
REMEC Holiday & Summer Activities
REMEC have provided activities during the holidays, especially during summer time, that educate, occupy and help the children and young people to socialise and have fun and live safely together.
Our activities have included Football, Hockey, Dodge Ball, Bull Dog, Basket Ball, Healthy Cooking, Healthy Eating, Dance & Movement, Making & Recording Music, Table Tennis, Swimming, Bowling, Outings & Visits to special places, Etc.
In all these years and in all the activities above, REMEC has helped a lot of volunteers and apprentices who have moved on in life to secure long term permanent job opportunities.
REMEC Radio & Media Training Group (audio, video and radio)
Our facilities were set up to train, not only young people but everyone in the community to learn about the media, whether it be audio editing, video editing of broadcasting on radio. These are skills that are transferable and can be applied to other areas of work.
REMEC Online IT centre & Elderly IT Club
REMEC had over 15 computers in our suite which were used to teach computer and IT classes to the children and young in the area. We have also given computer lessons to the older services users from Lewis Silken House next door to Scotney Hall, who were keen to brush up their skills.
REMEC served as the only internet café in the whole of the community.
REMEC ENGLISH LESSONS FOR ADULT SPEAKERS OF OTHER LANGUAGES
REMEC provided language lessons for adults whose second language was English, and wanted to improve their communication skills to enable them to work, study or to live in the UK.
We have helped service users to develop their listening, speaking, reading and writing skills. So that they will have the opportunity to study and go on for nationally recognised qualifications.
REMEC Cultural Heritage & African Language Classes.
Since its inception REMEC has prioritised time for language and culture classes for ethnic minority groups in the UK especially those of African Descent, particulary Igbo, Swahili & Yoruba.
REMEC Foodbank.
Since 2017 REMEC partnered with Fareshare, Tesco, Asda & Lidl to distribute food supplies to local residents. This service was halted from 2021 due to the COVID 19 pandemic and reorganisation after Rev’s passing and since then we have endeavoured to reconnect with our partners and serve the community again as best we can.
